Our new Westy

So we got our 1991 Westy on Tues Oct. 30th, 2012. She is a beauty. I have been shopping for a Westy for about 3 months. Mostly I was using Samba.com to see what was available across the US and Canada. I studied up on the various years, their engines and engine conversions from Porsche, GoWesty, Subaru, etc. I learned about the difference between a Weekender and a Camper. I studied up on Synchros and whether I wanted/needed one. I would say the hardest part for us as a family to choose from was between having more room (Weekender) or the Camper (more features). So rather than decide, we let the Westy that was meant to be ours choose for us. We waited until we found the “One” that really spoke to us. That happened first thing Tues morning when I did my daily checkup on thesamba.com and saw this beauty in Truckee that was just posted last night. It already had over 450 views on the ad. I called the seller, and he informed me he had people flying in from Canada and Seattle, driving from Santa Cruz and he was fielding so many calls it was insane. So basically he said if I don’t come up now, it would be gone. So we dropped the kids off at the parents, and headed up to Truckee (from the Bay Area).

Upon arriving in Truckee it was already dark. We located the Westy and met the owner. He was super nice and helpful, explaining the history and showing us all the features. Having never been in one, both my wife and I were blown away by all the “extras”. Learning about the pop up camper, the new awning, the gas and water and electric hookup, etc..etc. was overwhelming. We both loved it at first site, and the more we learned about it the more we liked it. So, as you already know, we wrote the check and got the keys and drove her from the top of the Sierras to her new home in the Bay Area.
